How Unpuzio handles your data: what stays on your iPhone, what goes to iCloud, and what the shared product database receives.

Summary

Unpuzio has no accounts, analytics, ads or trackers. Your food diary, weight, goals and profile are stored on your device and in your own iCloud. The developer has no access to them.

Data stored on your device and in your iCloud

Your diary, products, weight entries, goals, profile, meal photos and AI summaries are stored in the app's database on your iPhone and synced between your devices through your personal iCloud account (CloudKit private database). Readable copies (Markdown, CSV, JSON) and meal photos are kept in the Unpuzio folder in your iCloud Drive.

AI provider keys are stored in the iOS Keychain and synced through iCloud Keychain with end-to-end encryption.

Apple operates iCloud under Apple's privacy policy. The developer cannot read this data.

Shared product database (api.unpuzio.app)

When the shared product database is on (the default), the app sends your search query or scanned barcode to the Unpuzio server to find products. Products you create in the app (name, brand, barcode, calories and macros per 100 g, serving size) are added to the shared database and become available to all users.

Each request includes a random install ID generated by the app. It is used for rate limits, to allow one report per product, and is stored with products you add to prevent spam. It is not linked to your name, Apple ID, diary, weight or any other personal data, and it is not used for tracking.

The server keeps search queries without the install ID to improve search. Like any web server, it sees the IP address of a request; IP addresses are not stored with search queries or products.

If the product isn't in our database, the server looks it up in public food databases (such as Open Food Facts). Your install ID is never sent to them.

You can turn the shared database off in Settings → Product database. Then searches and barcodes go directly from your device to Open Food Facts, and products you create stay only with you.

AI features

Apple Intelligence runs on your device. If you add your own key for an AI provider (for example Anthropic, OpenAI or Google), the food description or photo you submit is sent directly from your device to that provider under your key and that provider's privacy policy. It does not pass through Unpuzio servers.

Apple Health

If you enable it, Unpuzio reads weight, active energy and workouts from Apple Health and can write weight and nutrition there. Health data stays within Apple's ecosystem, is never sent to Unpuzio servers and is never sent to AI providers.

Children

Unpuzio is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Deleting your data

Deleting the app removes the data on the device; data in your iCloud can be removed in Settings → [your name] → iCloud. Products you contributed to the shared database are not linked to you; if you want a product removed, write to us.
